1999 Porsche 996.1 GT3 Cup – WP0ZZZ99ZXS698089 / eng. 63W20530 – 28,829 kilometers / ~17,900 miles (increasing with use).
This is believed to be the 89th GT3 made. The first batch of GT3 were mfg. in late 1998 for Porsche Supercup. This car is from the subsequent batch of GT3 Cup cars, mfg. February, 1999.
The 996.1 Cup car features a 3.6 liter Mezger producing approx. 370hp. The early GT3 appears to employ a variant of the 993 Turbo gearbod – 6-speed manual with strengthened internals and oil LSD with upgraded clutch and lightweight flywheel. The GT3 Cup also uses BBS center-lock wheels with Valino PERGEA 08R & VR08GP 245/40R18 & 315/30R18. Plexiglass side and rear windows; carbon fenders; carbon doors; roll-cage; Recaro seats; air-jack; single windshield wiper;
Runs and drives well. Recent light-service – battery / oil & filter / plugs & coil packs.
Exterior – Grey paint looks good. Trim and glass are also in nice shape. :Single wiper as with all early GT3 Cup cars.. Lighting works as it should. No horn.
Interior – Factory dash is in good condition and gauges are as per the street-car (many Cup later updated to digital dash). Includes fuel-level as these cars use the street car fuel-tank and not a dedicated fuel-cell. Carbon doors in good shape; Recaro seats are black cloth and are in good condition with normal wear. Vehicle features both 3-point seat-belts and race-harnesses. Note: safety equipment has expired (for purposes of racing). No AC or heat, but has good fresh-air ventilation and blower works as intended.
Engine / Drivetrain – starts up readily and is able to settle into idle after 10-15 seconds. Engine runs smooth at no leaks or unusual smoke. While the factory maintenance intervals for Cup car participants is motor-out every 10’s of hours, the drivetrain is very similar to street version so maintenance at less than 10/10 will be similar to most other GT3 / GT4 / GT3 RS depending largely on use. PCA Tech Q&A – references the GT3 Cup Technical Handbook and summary of “gas & go” is fine as long as the car is serviced correctly… Here is another PCA Q&A on GT3 Cup Maintenance reviewing the different perspectives on maintenance intervals. Another view on GT3 HPDE / track maintenance.
Suspension – up-rated Cup specification shocks and springs – no history of rebuild however compliance and damping / brakes feels-good on the couple hundred KM of street-driving.
History – Currently equipped with 996.2 front bumper & headlights. No log-books or maintenance records but Japanese ownership records show it was first road registered is 2005 to Tanaka Tetsusaburo – a SuperGT racer who also mfg. TSK Racing high-end racing simulators.
In 2008 it was registered to second owner – Kano Takahiro who may have built it in this style – showed up at Wekfest 2014 looking very similar to today (paint / stripes / airbrush). Japanese street-license deregistered in 2017 and no signs of use until my purchase in 2024. Imported to USA in August, 2024. Road-registered in WA state in September, 2024.
I will include one set of 4 Fikse center-lock – from the collection of Fordahl Motorsports and appears to be same patern knock-off and similar sizing – fitting 993 GT / 996 Cup / 997 Cup (shown in photos).
Issues – bodywork updated to 996.2 headlights and GT2 style front & rear bumper. Carbon engine lid designed for a large wing. Original bodywork is not included but simple matter to change back to 996.1.Some signs of repair to front tub – visible on left-front of pan and left front hood securing pin.
