Japanese 996GT Edition limited to 20 units – combining the X51 PowerKit with M030 suspension and GT3 look Aerokit (XAA). Interestingly, the combination of Engine / Suspension / Aero were marketed in Europe as the 996 ‘Carrera Cup’ and also as Power-Up in Japan.

The 996.1 X51 package is an interesting footnote in the early 996 evolution. Developed by Porsche Motorsport as a plan-b in case the GT3 homologation wasn’t successful. The X51 package drew upon work developing the M96 Pirrelli Cup race cars and was offered to the public 1999-2001 in the 3.4 M96/01S. A partial list of upgrades includes new cylinder heads with increased oil scavenging; revised camshaft profiles; new pistons; sandcast aluminum intake manifold; different exhaust manifolds and catalytic converters; partitioned/baffled oil pan; center (third) radiator. Combined, they increased power to 320PS and addressed cooling and oiling weakness in the M96 engine. Lots more info on the history of these cars in the links below.

As a period Japanese car review put it (translated), Good choice for those who want GT3, but need 4 people only in form due to the circumstances of the house!

This is a well cared for example with low miles and nice auction grade (4 / B) which our friend Tomo H. inspected prior to purchase. It has aftermarket Recaro sport seats – but easy to go back to stock if desired.
