1985 Autobianchi Abarth A112 – ZAA112B0001588978. Neat little car with 50,840 miles (82,099 km) on the odometer.
Italy’s answer to the Classic BMC Mini and the original hot hatchback. Like the Mini Cooper, the A112 Abarth takes a fun to drive car and gives it a little extra kick.
Starts right up and runs and drives well. Transmission / brakes / steering all feel good and engine doesn’t smoke or leak. Good power – 70hp in a car well under 2000 lb is fun.
Exterior – recent repaint looks good however some flaws are evident; rear Abarth deco has a couple small cracks. Undercarriage is very clean. No rust.
Interior – average with nice dash / door panels / carpets. Negatives – split seams on the front-seats and worn fabric; headliner loose in some places.
Issues – most electrical work properly – tach / lights / wipers work. However horn; power windows; blinkers and some other gauges inop. One motor-mount (anti-torque brace) has worn bushings so motor moves more than normal on initial acceleration (on order from E Europe – delayed arrival).
The A112 Abarth is an efficient and enjoyable classic. Enjoy now and restore as you go.
