1994 Mazda AZ1 MazdaSpeed – a really neat car from a time when Japan was really pulling out all the stops as they developed new automotive technology and were satisfying increasing demand for novel and innovative cars at home.
The AZ-1 was a joint venture between Mazda and Suzuki under the umbrella of ‘Autozam’ a sales outlet what features a selection of kei trucks and vans and autos as well as halo cars such as the AZ-1 and Lancia Delta Integrale.
With it’s gullwing doors, high sills, mid-engine layout and micro-supercar looks, the AZ1 brings a smile everywhere it goes. Powered by a turbocharged and intercooled 660cc twincam 3-cylinder delivering ~70 hp to the crank – with a little over 1500 lb to move, makes for lively performance.
I purchased this particular early 2015 and stored in Canada / Auto-X in the USA and as of November, 2018 have back on new street-tires so ready for it’s new home.
